Subotiz supports two discount types:
  • Percentage off — reduces the product or subscription price by a defined percentage, such as 10% off
  • Fixed amount off — deducts a fixed currency amount from the order total, such as $20 off. Fixed amount discounts are applied in the store’s settlement currency — multi-currency values are not supported within a single discount.
Both types can be applied to one-time purchases and recurring subscriptions depending on how the campaign is configured.
A non-recurring discount applies to a single order only and does not extend to future billing cycles. It is typically used for one-time promotions or single-purchase incentives. A recurring discount applies across multiple billing cycles for subscriptions, based on the configured duration — for example, the first three cycles or all billing cycles. The number of cycles a recurring discount applies to is configured when creating the discount campaign. This distinction is important for subscription products where the discount may continue for several billing periods.
Discount codes in Subotiz must meet the following requirements:
  • Only uppercase letters and numbers are supported — lowercase letters and special characters are not allowed.
  • The length must be between 2 and 20 characters.
  • Each code must be unique within the same campaign.
  • Codes can be entered manually or generated automatically.
Using short, recognizable codes such as WELCOME10 is recommended for easier customer use.
Yes. When creating a discount campaign, the discount applies to all products by default. To limit the scope, enable the product selection option and choose specific items from the product catalog. This allows you to run targeted promotions for selected products or pricing plans without affecting the rest of your catalog. After creation, the applicable product scope is displayed on the campaign detail page and can be edited — edits apply to future transactions only and do not affect already completed invoices or payments.
Yes. When creating a discount campaign, you can set a minimum purchase amount as a condition for the discount to apply. If the order total does not meet the minimum spend threshold, the discount will not be applied at checkout. This is useful for encouraging larger purchases or preventing discount use on low-value orders. If conditions are met, the discount amount is clearly shown at checkout. If conditions are not met, no discount is applied.
No. Edits to a discount campaign apply to future transactions only and do not affect already completed invoices or payments. This means customers who have already used the discount or made payments under the current campaign settings will not be impacted by any changes. This behavior is consistent with Subotiz’s general approach to product and pricing updates, where modifications take effect going forward without retroactively changing historical records.
Discount campaigns in Subotiz have four statuses with different available actions:
  • Draft — the campaign has been saved but not yet published. Available actions are Publish and Delete.
  • Scheduled (Not Started) — the campaign has been published and is set to start at a future date. The only available action is Revert to Draft.
  • Active (Ongoing) — the campaign is currently running. The only available action is End Early.
  • Ended (Completed) — the campaign has finished or was ended early. Available actions are Reactivate and Delete.
Understanding these statuses helps merchants control the promotion lifecycle without accidentally modifying an active campaign.
The Redemptions Left field shows the current usage progress of a discount campaign, displayed as used count versus total limit — for example 3/10 or 3/Unlimited. This field updates automatically in real time. Importantly, if an order is refunded or canceled, the redemption count is adjusted accordingly, meaning the used count decreases and the remaining redemptions increase. This ensures the redemption tracking remains accurate even when orders are reversed.
No. Discounts do not apply during a trial period — whether free or paid. However, the discount is retained and automatically applied when the first paid billing cycle begins after the trial ends. For example, if a subscription has a 7-day free trial followed by a $30 monthly charge, and a 10% discount is configured, the first paid cycle will be charged $27 (10% off $30). At checkout, the discount amount displays as $0 during the trial period, but the system records that the discount is active and will apply to the first paid cycle.
If a discount campaign is configured for N billing cycles, the discount is applied sequentially starting from the first paid billing cycle after any trial period ends, until the configured number of cycles is reached. For example, a 10% discount for 3 cycles on a $50 monthly subscription: cycle 1, 2, and 3 are each charged $45. From cycle 4 onward, the full $50 is charged. If the subscription includes a trial period, the trial does not count as a billing cycle — the 3-cycle discount starts from the first paid cycle after the trial ends.
Yes. Ended discount campaigns can be reactivated from the campaign list or detail page. Select Reactivate from the More actions menu on any ended campaign. After reactivation, the campaign becomes active again and the discount code can be used at checkout. This is useful for relaunching a successful promotion without creating a new campaign from scratch. Note that only ended campaigns support the Reactivate action — active campaigns can only be ended early, and draft campaigns can be published.
Fixed amount discounts are applied in the store’s settlement currency only. Multi-currency values are not supported within a single discount campaign. This means if your store settlement currency is USD and you set a $20 fixed discount, the $20 deduction is calculated in USD regardless of the currency the customer is paying in. If you need to offer discounts in different currencies, you would need to create separate discount campaigns. Percentage discounts are not affected by this limitation as they apply proportionally regardless of currency.
Yes. When creating a discount campaign, the start date field can be left blank to activate the campaign immediately upon publishing, or you can set a specific future date for the campaign to begin. If a future start date is set, the campaign status will show as Scheduled (Not Started) after publishing, and it will automatically activate on the configured date. This is useful for aligning promotions with marketing events, seasonal campaigns, or product launches. The expiry date is optional and can also be set to control when the campaign ends.
Yes. The discount name you enter when creating a campaign is displayed on customer invoices. This means the name is customer-facing, not just an internal label. When naming a discount campaign, use a clear and meaningful name that makes sense to customers — for example, Summer Sale 20% Off or Welcome Discount. Avoid using internal codes or unclear abbreviations that may confuse customers when they review their invoices.
